Not outside Europe will you find the variety of Palaces as there are in Thailand which most are located around the region of Bangkok. The palaces were established to be residences for the royal family starting with King Rama I. The current King Rama IX mostly uses the palaces for festivals and special events such as when foreign dignitaries come to the country.

All the palaces are now open to the Thai public and tourists however it must be noted that the palaces are only open limited times of the day and they may be closed if an event is scheduled. At these palaces special dress regulations usually are required in that no singlets or open shoes are allowed plus clothing must be worn below the knee. We highly recommend visiting all the palaces located around Bangkok especially the Royal Grand Palace and the Royal Summer Palace (Bang Pa-In).
